Hakia Week - Part 2
By Chris Harris This week, we are talking Hakia - a new search engine that uses the power of natural language queries and semantic search. So how does this work? And is there actually something that makes this tool different? The basic technology behind Hakia can be explored in the Hakia Lab. They really cool bit is their OntoSem ot Ontological Semantics technology. This looks at each word, both individually and in context. For example, looking at an example from yesterday's post, we can see how Hakia interprets the phrase How does the electoral college work? This is a technology that I think has great potential for use in library queries. Instead of building search strings through complex multi-faceted subject headings, OntoSem can use context to interpret meanings.
